Året er 1969 og i homoklubben Stonewall Inn har de verken lov til å henge i gata eller å danse. Et siste politiraid gjør at begeret renner over. Lunta er tent. Filmen tar oss gjennom tre ikoniske nabolag som alle har vært instrumentelle for hvordan vi feirer Pride i dag – the Castro i San Francisco, Le Marais i Paris og Greenwich Village i New York. Hvert av disse nabolagene forteller om et spesifikt politisk øyeblikk i LHBTQI-historien: undertrykkelsen på 60 og 70-tallet, AIDS-epidemien på 80-tallet, drag queens og skeiv representasjon i mote og populærkultur på 90-tallet, og kampen for aksept og like rettigheter i ekteskap på 2000-tallet. Dette er historien om Pride.
The year is 1969. At gay club the Stonewall Inn, the clientele is forbidden from hanging out in the street and from dancing. One more police raid in a seemingly endless sequence turns out to be the last drop, and the fuse is finally lit.
This documentary guides us through three iconic neighborhoods, all of which have been instrumental in terms of how we celebrate Pride today; The Castro in San Francisco, Le Marais in Paris, and Greenwich Village in New York. Each neighborhood represents a specific moment in LGBTQI* history: The oppression in the ‘60s and ‘70s, the AIDS epidemic in the ‘80s, drag queens and queer representation in fashion and popular culture in the ‘90s, and the fight for acceptance and equal rights and marriage in the 2000s. This is the history of Pride.
